Well, Thursday I had computer problems which trickled into Friday. Things still aren’t right, but they are workable. I missed my yesterday post, so let’s do a special post today.
Recently I read a novella by an author I’d never heard of before. It was in the form of an eBook and ePublished. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have a difficult time finding decent books which come in only eBook format. I get the impression it’s because ePublishers can take a greater risk on books which don’t have that oomph print books need to make a profit. After all, it takes a lot less money to distribute eBooks than print books.
So back to the eBook I read. It was pretty decent. In fact, I’d probably give it 4 out of 5 stars, maybe 4.5. I was pleasantly surprised to land such a great read. I seldom find print books I’d give 4 stars. Here’s the thing though. The eBook was riddled with errors: missing quotation marks, wrong names, syntax errors, typos, etc. It made me think the only one who did any editing was the writer. And anyone who writes, knows how difficult it is to edit his/her own work.
Really, it was a shame, because the work really wasn’t that long. Even a full-sized novel shouldn’t be presented with as many errors as this piece had. I wonder if the author would be upset if she knew how many errors her published copies had. No one’s perfect, but some do better than others in certain situations.
So, I ask you. Which publishers have you had the best experiences with? And why? Today, let’s not rag on the short comings of a particular publisher, let’s just boast about how great a publisher has done with you as a writer and your work. Well? How about it?
